A series of legislative acts mandate that public districts, charters, and private schools participating in federally sponsored nutrition programs enact wellness policies. The 2016 Final Rule required that districts include certain practices in their wellness policies by June 30, 2017.
In 2018, we reviewed the status of 442 public school districts in Wisconsin. Of these districts, 53% updated their policy, 41% did not, and we were unable to determine the status among 6%.
